Infinite Jest
Infinite Jest is, IMHO, one of the best novels published in the last fifty years--and one of the most important. It's a hard read. Wallace asks a lot of the reader, and many readers I know bagged the task after a hundred pages or so. If you're struggling through it, hang in there. It's worth the chunk of your life you're exchanging.
